गोद लिए हुलसी फिरै, तुलसी सो सुत होय कहानी
कहा जाता है कि एक गरीब व्यक्ति तुलसीदास जी के पास आया।
उसकी बेटी की शादी होनी थी और उसको इस विवाह के आयोजन के लिए आर्थिक सहायता की आवश्यकता थी।
उसने तुलसीदास जी से इस संबंध में प्रार्थना की। अब तुलसीदास जी तो खुद धन-संपत्ति से बहुत दूर थे, वे क्या सहायता करते!
लेकिन उनके समकालीन और अच्छे मित्र रहीम जी (अब्दुर्रहीम खानखाना) महाराज अकबर के दरबार में थे, उनके नवरत्नों में शामिल थे। वे उस व्यक्ति की सहायता कर सकते थे।
तुलसीदास जी ने उस व्यक्ति को एक कागज़ पर एक पंक्ति लिखकर दी और कहा कि यह लेकर आप रहीम जी के पास चले जाओ, वे आपकी सहयता करेंगे।
उस कागज़ पर तुलसीदास जी ने लिखा था
सुरतिय, नरतिय, नागतिय सबके मन अस होय
जिसका आशय है कि चाहे देवताओं की पत्नियां हों, चाहे महिलाएं हों या नागवंश में भी, नागिन हों- उन सभी को धन-संपत्ति, जेवर, मणि आदि अच्छे लगते हैं, उनकी आवश्यकता होती है।
वह व्यक्ति उस पर्ची को लेकर रहीम जी के पास गया, वे आशय समझ गए और उन्होंने उस व्यक्ति की भरपूर सहायता की, फिर उन्होंने उस व्यक्ति से कहा कि यह पर्ची वापस तुलसीदास जी को दे देना। उन्होंने उस पर्ची पर एक और पंक्ति लिख दी थी और अब दोनों पंक्तियां मिलकर इस प्रकार हो गई थीं
सुरतिय, नरतिय, नागतिय सबके मन अस होय
गोद लिए हुलसी फिरै, तुलसी सो सुत होय
यहाँ रहीम जी ने तुलसीदास जी से कहा कि आपने सही नहीं कहा, धन-संपत्ति महिलाओं को प्रिय हो सकती हैं, लेकिन सबसे बड़ी सौभाग्यशाली तो वह मां है, जिसका तुलसीदास जैसा बेटा हो।

It is said that a poor man came to Tulsidas ji. His daughter was to get married and he needed financial help to organize this marriage. He prayed to Tulsidas ji in this regard.
Now Tulsidas ji himself was far away from wealth, how could he help! But his contemporary and good friend Rahim ji (Abdurrahim Khankhana) was in the court of Maharaj Akbar, he was included in his Navratnas. He could help that person.
Tulsidas ji wrote a line on a piece of paper and gave it to that person and said that you take this and go to Rahim ji, he will help you.
On that piece of paper, Tulsidas ji had written-
Suratiya, Naratiya, Nagatiya Sabke Man As Hoye
सुरतिय, नरतिय, नागतिय सबके मन अस होय
which means that whether it is the wives of the gods, whether it is women or even in the Naga dynasty, whether it is a serpent - all of them like wealth, jewelry, gems etc., they need them.
That person took that slip to Rahim ji, he understood the meaning and he helped that person a lot, then he told that person to give this slip back to Tulsidas ji.
He wrote another line on that slip and now both the lines together became like this
Suratiya, Naratiya, Nagatiya- Sabke Man Aas Hoye
God Liye Hulsi Phire, Tulsi So Sut Hoye
Here Rahim ji told Tulsidas ji that you are not right, wealth and property may be dear to women, but the most fortunate is that mother who has a son like Tulsidas.
