How did Hanuman Chalisa originated?
There is one related incident which explains Hanuman Chalisa history. This incident dates back to the time of the Mughal Emperor Akbar in India.
One fine morning, a lady who had just finished her prayers touched the feet of Tulsidas Ji. Tulsidas Ji blessed her with immense happiness. However, as soon as she received this blessing, she burst into tears and cried out that her husband had recently passed away.
She implored Tulsidas, a devoted follower of Lord Ram, to bring her husband back to life. Tulsidas Ji remained unwavering in his faith, knowing that Lord Rama's blessings would not be in vain. He asked everyone present, including the grieving woman, to chant the name of Ram.
Everyone followed his instruction, and miraculously, the deceased man returned to life, chanting the name of Rama.
When Emperor Akbar learned of this incident, he summoned Tulsidas to his palace and requested him to perform a miracle in front of a large crowd to test his abilities.
Fearlessly, Tulsidas Ji told Akbar that he was not a miracle worker but merely a devotee of Lord Shri Ram. This response angered Akbar, and he ordered Tulsidas Ji to be chained with iron chains.
Tulsidas Ji accepted his fate and went to jail, continuously reciting the name of Ram. He remained steadfast in his faith and, during his time in prison, composed the Hanuman Chalisa and recited it for 40 days. A miraculous event occurred on the 40th day when thousands of monkeys suddenly attacked Akbar's palace. It didn't take Akbar long to understand the reason for this unusual attack, and he realized the power of devotion.
At that moment, Akbar apologized to Tulsidas Ji, released him from prison, and showed him great respect. Not only that, but Akbar remained a friend of Tulsidas Ji throughout his life.
It is believed that Lord Hanuman blessed Tulsidas Ji, stating that all the troubles of devotees who recite the Hanuman Chalisa with devotion in Kaliyuga would be alleviated.
