To perform Ganesh puja at home first you need to gather essential items and then you can follow procedure as given in below steps. You may need to chant Ganesh mantra in between. There is no boundation on that and chant as much as you can.

 

Now lets first understand what you need to perform Shri Ganesh Puja. These are also called as Puja samagri.

What do you need?

  1. Ganesha Idol

    The Ganesha idol is the centerpiece of the puja. If possible, opt for an eco-friendly idol, as these are free from harmful dyes, chemicals, colors, and glitters, making them safer for both water resources and the environment.

  2. Puja Samagri

    Gather the necessary items, including flowers, incense sticks or dhoop, Akshat (rice grains), Modak, a ghee diya, betel leaves, cardamom, and mishri.

  3. Puja Thali

    Arrange all the puja items on a thali, ready to be offered to Lord Ganesha.

  1. Clean the Ganesha Idol

    Begin by cleaning the Ganesha idol and placing it on a designated puja platform.

  2. Arrange Puja Items

    Organize the puja thali with all the essential items, including a diya (lamp), incense sticks, akshat (rice grains), betel leaves, cardamom, and Modak Prasad.

 

Ganesh puja at home - Puja Procedure - Steps

  1. Invocation

    Begin the puja by chanting Ganesh Chaturthi mantras and offering prayers to invoke Lord Ganesha’s blessings. Keep chanting Shri Ganesh mantra.

  2. Ganesha’s Abhishek (Bathing Ritual)

    Symbolically bathe the Ganesha idol using water and rice grains to purify and honor the deity.

  3. Flower Offering

    Decorate the Ganesha idol with fresh flowers as a gesture of respect and devotion.

  4. Aarti with Diya

    Light a diya (lamp) and perform the aarti by moving the diya in a circular motion before the idol.

  5. Prasad Offering

    Present prasad, including Modak, betel leaves, and cardamom, which are especially favored by Lord Ganesha.

  6. Ganesh ji Aarti

    Conclude the puja by singing the Ganesh Aarti, offering thanks, and seeking continued blessings from Lord Ganesha.

 

Ganesh Mantra

Om Gan Ganpataye Namaha

Meaning: It signifies surrendering to Lord Ganapati with our entire being and embracing his divine qualities within ourselves.

 

Vakratunda Maha-Kaaya Surya-Kotti Samaprabha, 

Nirvighnam KuruMe Deva Sarva-Karyeshu Sarvada.

Meaning: This mantra describes the Lord's majestic form, including his large body and prominent trunk, and highlights his brilliance, which shines brighter than a million suns. 

 

Aum Ekadantaya Viddhamahe, 

Vakratundaya Dhimahi, Tanno Danti Prachodayat.

Meaning: Humbly bow before the mighty Lord Ganesh and pray for the well-being of all. Lord Ganesh embodies the entire universe within himself. By adopting the humility of Lord Ganesh in your life, you take a meaningful step towards liberation and the attainment of salvation (moksha) by breaking the cycle of karma.
