About Navgrah

In Hinduism, the Navagrahas refer to the nine celestial bodies that hold sway over our earthly existence. The term stems from Sanskrit, where "nava" means nine, and "graha" denotes planet or the act of seizing/grasping. Among these, seven are tangible celestial entities—the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The remaining two, Rahu and Ketu, are not actual astronomical bodies but rather mathematical points in Vedic Astrology. Interestingly, Rahu and Ketu are portrayed as demons in Hindu mythology who cleverly found their way into this celestial group.

The belief is that the positions of these planets at the time of our birth shape the course of our lives. Their placements and movements relative to the fixed stars in the zodiac constellations exert influence over various facets of our existence—physical, mental, emotional, financial, and more. These influences can be either favorable or unfavorable and are unique to each individual.

It's important to note that not everything in our lives is predetermined by external forces, and we do have a degree of agency. The proper and respectful worship of the Navagrahas is thought to mitigate the malevolent or adverse influences of these celestial bodies, bringing about peace and prosperity.

Many Hindu temples feature deities representing the nine planets on an altar, and devotees offer prayers to them before worshipping other gods to seek the removal of obstacles and the reversal of misfortune. Some temples are exclusively dedicated to venerating and appeasing these Navagraha deities.

Navgrah Chalisa

"Shri Navagraha Chalisa" is a devotional song based on the Navagrahas. In Vedic astrology, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu, the group of these nine planets is called "Navagraha".

Its potency lies in mitigating the adverse impacts that planetary forces might exert on various dimensions of our existence—be it our well-being, professional journey, familial bonds, or inner tranquility. Enchanting these sacred verses holds the potential to align our being with the cosmos, thus restoring equilibrium within our life's fabric. Consistent practice can amplify the positive energies surrounding us, thwarting any potential adversity or unfavorable outcomes stemming from the cosmic influences of the nine celestial bodies.
