Jitiya

Every year, according to the Hindu calendar, married women observe the Jitiya fast on Krishna Ashtami during the Ashwin month. It is believed that observing this fast bestows happiness, prosperity, and longevity upon their children. Jitiya Vrat is also known as Jivitputrika and Jiutiya Vrat.

During Jitiya Vrat, fasting women abstain from both food and water throughout the entire day. They break their fast only after offering Arghya (an offering) to Lord Sun.

Typically, the Jitiya fast is concluded on the following day, specifically on Navami Tithi. The customs and traditions associated with Jitiya Vrat are akin to those of Chhath Puja. Jivitputrika Vrat holds significant importance, primarily in regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
