Ganesh Chaturthi fast is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. On this day, special worship of Ganesha is done. According to the Panchang, two Chaturthi come every month. 

One in Shukla Paksha and one in Krishna Paksha. The Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha falling every month is called Sankashti Chaturthi, while the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha is called Vinayak Chaturthi.

According to Narada Purana, the fasting person should keep a full day fast on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi. Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Katha should be heard in the evening. Performing puja at home on Sankashti Chaturthi removes negative effects. Not only this, peace remains in the house by worshipping Sankashti Chaturthi. 

All the problems of the house are removed. Ganesh ji fulfills every wish of the devotees. Seeing the moon on this day is also considered auspicious. 

The Sankashti fast which starts from sunrise ends only after Chandra Darshan, 12-3 Sankashti fasts are kept throughout the year. Every Sankashti Vrat has a different story.

Sankashti Chaturthi is also known as Ganesh Sankathara or Sankathara Chaturthi in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
