The new moon that falls on Monday is called Somvati Amavasya. According to the probability theory of mathematics, Amavasya can occur on Monday only once or twice in a year. But according to the time cycle, it is absolutely uncertain that the new moon falls on Somvati.
During Haridwar Kumbh, the day of Somvati Amavasya is considered very holy, on this day the Naga Sadhus also take a royal bath.
According to the beliefs of Hinduism, Somvati Amavasya has a special significance. There are some different beliefs related to the worship of Somvati Amavasya.
According to the first belief: On the day of Somvati Amavasya, women take a pledge to donate any item / fruit while doing 108 rounds of Tulsi Mata.
According to the second belief: On the day of Somvati Amavasya, women do Bhanwari (108 rounds) of the Peepal tree, and pray for unbroken good fortune. Along with this, they take a pledge to donate goods or fruits along with reading the Shri Gauri-Ganesh and Somvati Vrat Katha. It is believed that all the gods reside in the Peepal tree, hence Peepal is worshipped according to this belief.
