पद्म पुराण में वर्णित एक कथा के अनुसार जब वृषभानु जी यज्ञ भूमि की सफाई कर रहे थे तो उन्हें भूमि पुत्री के रूप में श्री राधा जी मिलीं।

वृषभानु जी उस कन्या को घर ले आए लेकिन वह कन्या अपनी आंखें नहीं खोल रही थी। कई दिनों तक आंखें बंद किए हुए उस कन्या को देखकर उसके माता-पिता ने सोचा कि वह देख नहीं सकती लेकिन जब बाल रूप में श्री कृष्ण राधा रानी के सामने प्रकट हुए तो राधा जी ने अपनी आंखें खोली और मुस्कुराने लगीं।

कई कथाओं में यह भी माना जाता है कि राधा की मां कीर्ति गर्भवती हो गईं लेकिन राधा उनके गर्भ में नहीं आईं। कीर्ति के गर्भ में वायु थे और योगमाया की मदद से कीर्ति ने वायु को जन्म दिया लेकिन वायु के जन्म के साथ ही राधा वहां एक कन्या के रूप में प्रकट हुईं। इसलिए माना जाता है कि देवी राधा अयोनिजा थीं।

पूर्वजन्म में राधा रानी के माता-पिता | नारदजी ने सुनाया इतिहास
बहुलाश्व के पूछने पर नारदजी ने राधाजी के माता-पिता वृषभानु और कीर्तिजी के पूर्वजन्म की कथा सुनाई।
उन्होंने बताया कि प्राचीन काल में एक राजा नृग थे। उनके सुचंद्र नाम के पुत्र थे। उन्हें स्वयं भगवान का अंश माना जाता था। दूसरी ओर आदि पितरों के संकल्प से 3 कन्याओं का जन्म हुआ।
इन तीनों के नाम कलावती, रत्नमाला और मेनका थे। कलावती का विवाह सुचंद्र से हुआ।
पितरों ने इन कन्याओं को ब्रह्मविधि के अनुसार अपनी इच्छानुसार दान कर दिया।
सुचंद्र अपनी पत्नी कलावती के साथ गोमती नदी के तट पर स्थित एक वन में चले गए।
वहां उन्होंने ब्रह्माजी की तपस्या की। प्रसन्न होकर ब्रह्माजी प्रकट हुए और वरदान दिया - तुम सब मेरे साथ स्वर्ग चलो और वहां सभी सुखों का आनंद लो।
उसके बाद द्वापर के अंत में तुम पृथ्वी पर जन्म लोगे और तुम दोनों से भगवान कृष्ण की प्रिया उत्पन्न होगी।

He told that in ancient times there was a king Nrig. He had a son named Suchandra. He was considered a part of God himself. On the other hand, 3 daughters were born by the resolution of the Adi Pitris.
The names of these three were Kalavati, Ratnamala and Menaka. Kalavati was married to Suchandra.
The Pitris donated these daughters as per their wish according to Brahmavidhi.
Suchandra went to a forest situated on the banks of Gomti river with his wife Kalavati.
There he did penance of Brahmaji. Pleased, Brahmaji appeared and gave a boon - all of you come with me to heaven and enjoy all the pleasures there.
After that, at the end of Dwapar, you will be born on earth and Lord Krishna's beloved will be born from both of you.
इस तरह धरती पर प्रकट हुए राधाजी के माता-पिता
गर्ग संहिता में राधा रानी की माता कीर्ति और वृषभानु के पूर्वजन्म के बारे में लिखा है।
कन्नौज देव नाम के एक महान राजा थे, जो भालंदन नाम से भी प्रसिद्ध थे।
राधा की माता कीर्तिदा अपने पूर्वजन्म में कलावती थीं। कलावती को अपने पूर्वजन्म की सारी बातें याद थीं।
द्वापर युग में सुरभानु के घर एक बालक ने जन्म लिया, जिसका नाम सुचंद्र रखा गया। बाद में सुचंद्र ही वृषभानु बने।
उन्हें अपना पूर्वजन्म भी याद था। वे गोपों में प्रमुख थे।
पूर्वजन्म में राधा रानी के माता-पिता दोनों ही दान-पुण्य और पुण्य कार्य करते थे।
