Anant chaturdashi puja vidhi: Anant Chaturdashi is a significant day to worship Lord Vishnu in his perpetual form, Anant. This auspicious occasion falls on the 14th day of the Bhadrapada month, coinciding with the 10th day of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations and the Ganpati Visarjan ceremony.

Anant Chaturdashi puja vidhi Step-by-Step 

Anant Chaturdashi is a sacred day to worship Lord Vishnu, and its story is recited during the puja rituals. 

The Anant Sutra, a cotton thread with 14 sacred knots, is created with turmeric, kumkum, and saffron. Mantras like Achutaya Namah, Anantaya Namah, and Govinday Namah are offered to Lord Vishnu.

Here’s a simple and detailed guide to performing the Anant Chaturdashi Puja, highlighting the rituals to be followed on this sacred day:

1. Setting Up the Puja Area

  • Begin by thoroughly cleaning the designated puja space. 
  • Place a picture or idol of Lord Vishnu on a clean platform or altar, ensuring the area is neat and ready for the ceremony.

 

2. Preparing the Anant Thread - Symbolizes infinity 

  • Take the special Anant thread and soak it in water. 
  • This thread symbolizes infinity and is tied on the right wrist for men and the left wrist for women as part of the ritual.

 

3. Offering Prayers and Mantra

Light incense sticks and camphor to purify the atmosphere. Offer them to Lord Vishnu, along with fresh flowers, while chanting prayers and mantras to invoke his blessings.

Anantrupe Viniyojayasva Hranantsutraya Namo Namaste.

अनंत संसार महासुमद्रे मग्रं समभ्युद्धर वासुदेव। 

अनंतरूपे विनियोजयस्व ह्रानंतसूत्राय नमो नमस्ते।।

4. Applying Kumkum and Turmeric

  • Apply a small amount of kumkum (vermilion) and turmeric to the idol or image of Lord Vishnu as a mark of respect and auspiciousness.

 

5. Offering Rice (Akshat) and Coconut

  • Offer rice and a whole coconut to Lord Vishnu. 
  • These items symbolize purity, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

 

6. Tying the Durva Grass

  • Take three or five strands of durva grass, tie them together, and 
  • Offer them to Lord Vishnu as part of the traditional offerings.

 

7. Tying the Anant Thread

  • As you tie the Anant thread around your wrist, recite prayers and make a vow for a specific wish or desire, seeking the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

8. Offering Betel Leaves and Nuts

  • Next, offer betel leaves and nuts to Lord Vishnu.

शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशं

विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्ण शुभाङ्गम् ।

लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यम्,

वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ।

Shantakaram bhujagashayanam padmanaabhan suresham 

Vishvaadhaaram Gagana sadrshan meghavarm shubhaangam.

Lakshmi kaantam Kamal Nayanam yogi bhirdhyaana Gamyam, 

Vande Vishnum Bhava bhya haram sarvalokai kanaatham.

Anant Chaturdashi Katha - Story of Sushila and Kaundinya

Sushila, a Brahmin's daughter, took the Anant vow after her marriage to Kaundinya. 

She followed strict guidelines to seek Lord Vishnu's blessings. However, Kaundinya didn't believe in the power of Lord Anant and attributed their prosperity to his hard work. As a result, they faced misfortune and poverty.

Kaundinya realized his mistake and started performing rituals to regain prosperity. They sought forgiveness, and Lord Vishnu revealed himself as Lord Anant, his incarnation.
