Ganesh Chaturthi fast is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. On this day, special worship of Ganesha is done. According to the Panchang, two Chaturthi come every month. One in Shukla Paksha and one in Krishna Paksha.
The Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha falling every month is called Sankashti Chaturthi, while the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha is called Vinayak Chaturthi. On this day, Lord Ganesha, the destroyer of obstacles, is worshiped.
Ganesh ji has the highest place among all the gods. Ganesh ji is considered to remove all troubles and obstacles. Regular worship of Lord Ganesha increases happiness and prosperity in the house.
How to do Vinayak Chaturthi Puja Vidhi:
- According to the belief, the worship of Chaturthi Tithi should be done in the afternoon.
- Because one should not look at the moon in the evening. It is believed that looking at the moon on this day leads to false stigma.
- According to the belief, in Dwapar Yuga, Lord Krishna saw the moon on the night of Vinayak Chaturthi, after which he was falsely accused of stealing Syamantaka Mani.
- On this day, take a vow to fast by taking a bath in the morning and purify the place of worship with Gangajal and start the worship.
- After offering a garland of yellow flowers to Lord Ganesha, offer incense, lamp, naivedya, Akshat and his beloved Durva grass. After this, offer sweets or modaks. Finally, read the fasting story and do the aarti of Ganesha.
According to the belief, Lord Ganesha is very fond of vermilion, so apply a tilak of red vermilion to Ganesha during the worship on the day of Vinayak Chaturthi.
While offering vermilion, chant the following mantra
Sindooram Shobhanam Raktam Saubhagyam Sukhvardhanam.
Shubhadam Kamdam Chaiva Sindooram Pratigrihyatam.
सिन्दूरं शोभनं रक्तं सौभाग्यं सुखवर्धनम् ।
शुभदं कामदं चैव सिन्दूरं प्रतिगृह्यताम् ॥
