This day is considered very important in some states because it is the Sun's own sign. However, in other states, Capricorn, Cancer, Midhuna and Sagittarius Sankranti are more important. In some states, Aries Sankranti is also important.
Importance of Singh Sankranti:
- Singh Sankranti of Bhadrapada (Bhado) month is called Ghee Sankranti or Olgi Sankranti in Uttarakhand.
- It is also called Ghee Sankranti or Ghiya Sankrant or Ghee-Tyar.

- On the day of Singh Sankranti, many types of dishes are prepared and eaten, in which lentil stuffed rotis, kheer and gundla or gaba are the main ones.
5 auspicious measures for Singh Sankranti
1. Offer water to Sun God and donate: If there is Suryadosha in the horoscope, then one should especially donate the things related to Sun God. Such as copper, jaggery etc. On this day, special worship of Sun God should be done with Surya Mantra.
2. Use of ghee: According to mythology, it is said that the one who does not eat ghee on this day will have to take birth as a snail in the next life. This is the reason why ghee is applied on the head and soles of the feet of newborn children and a little ghee is also kept on the tongue.
3. Worship Shri Hari Vishnu: On this holy festival, Lord Vishnu is worshipped and a special ritual of worship of Lord Narasimha, another form of Shri Hari, has also been told.
4. Donate red things: On the day of Singh Sankranti, after bathing and worship, donate red things according to your capacity. By donating red clothes, copper utensils, red sandalwood or red handkerchief, Sun God will become strong and there will be chances of promotion in the job.
5. Float lamps in the river: Floating flour lamps in the river during the auspicious time brings relief from all kinds of troubles as well as debts.
