Sawan Somwar is a deeply revered day in the Hindu calendar, occurring within the auspicious month of Sawan. On this day, followers of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati observe a day of spiritual reflection, marked by fasting and heartfelt prayers offered with profound devotion.

In the Hindu faith, the month of Shravan is considered a sacred period, and the Mondays that fall within it, known as Sawan Somwar, hold special significance. 

Every year in India, the auspicious occasion of Shravani Purnima is celebrated as Sanskrit day (Diwas ). 

What is the Sanskrit festival?

This day is celebrated because Sanskrit is the oldest language in our culture. Sanskrit is the language of almost all Vedas and Puranas. Therefore, people have respect for Sanskrit language. 

Our religious texts and mantras are mostly written in this language. Sanskrit Day is very unique in itself, because no other ancient language is celebrated in this way at the national level.

The state of Uttarakhand is known for its culture and tradition. Ghee Sankranti is famous among such traditional festivals. Ghee Sankranti is also called Ghee Tyaar, Ghyu Tyaar, Ghu Sankranti and Olgia in the regional language. Eating ghee on the day of Ghee Sankranti has special significance.

In Hindu calendar, the 11th tithi of every month is called Ekadashi. Ekadashi is considered to be a tithi dedicated to Lord Vishnu. As there are two phases in a month, there are two Ekadashi, one in Shukla Paksha and the other in Krishna Paksha. Thus, there can be at least 24 Ekadashi in a year, but in case of Adhik Maas, this number can be 26.

The entry of the Sun into the Leo sign is called Leo Sankranti. On Friday, 16 August 2024, the Sun God will change to Leo sign.

This day is considered very important in some states because it is the Sun's own sign. However, in other states, Capricorn, Cancer, Midhuna and Sagittarius Sankranti are more important. In some states, Aries Sankranti is also important.

Jhulan Yatra is one of the most important festivals for the followers of Lord Shri Krishna which is celebrated in the month of Shravan. This festival falls in the period of July-August. 

It is the biggest and most popular religious occasion of the Vaishnavites. 

Known for decorated swings, spectacular display of song and dance, Jhulan is a joyous festival celebrating the love of Radha Krishna combined with excitement during the rainy season in India.
